Audi Club Meet & Nethercutt Museum Tour

My first stop of the weekend was the Audi Club of North America's meet at the Nethercutt Museum in Sylmar. The Southern California Chapter of the ACNA met up for a show, museum tour, group drive and luncheon. California Car Cover donated some raffle prizes to the event, so I drove over to the show and museum tour to see some of our friends.

There were plenty of Audi models on display during the show and shine. It has been a few years since I sold my last Audi, but the show gave me some ideas for whenever I get another one. Whether you were a fan of the S4 or the R8 there was plenty to check out in the morning. The club provided coffee and pastries for everyone before taking a tour of the museum.

The Nethercutt Museum has a great collection of vehicles, which are mostly pre-war automobiles. You can find out a lot of information on the museum, the adjacent Nethercutt Collection and the locomotives on the museum's website.
The Nethercutt Collection across the street can only be seen with a reservation for a guided tour. Hopefully, I can make arrangements to see it on my next visit. The collection houses more cars and musical instruments that have been collected over the years.

My favorite vehicle at the museum was the 1930 Broxton. The vehicle looks similar to any large vehicle produced during the early 30s, but the unique paint job is what makes it appealing. The stripes and wide white walls tires make it look like something you would have seen at a 60's autorama type event.

The Nethercutt Museum has a sizable collection of large cars. There are a handful of customs and hot rods, but this is definitely a destination for any fan of older Rolls-Royce, Packard, or Cadillac automobiles.

The museum has a wall full of memorabilia, including old hood ornaments, car parts and headlights.

The must see attractions at the Nethercutt are the locomotive and train car. The train car is a fully restored 1912 Pullman private car and once belonged to the daughter of California mining magnate Lucky Baldwin. This train car is a fine example of how wealthy people traveled the rails in the early 1900s.

The locomotive is a 1937 Canadian Pacific Royal Hudson. It has many of the original parts including the original bell, which I was allowed to ring.

In case you do not follow California Car Cover on Instagram, here are some examples of the photos I posted on Saturday morning.

Check back later on this week, as I will be posting new images daily from all the car shows from this past weekend. Tomorrow there will be photos from the Vista Ford Mustang Show and Super Car Sunday in Woodland Hills.

6 Car Shows in 2 Days in Los Angeles

This past weekend was a busy one for California Car Cover and me. I attended five different car shows over Cinco de Mayo weekend. California Car Cover is a proud supporter of many of our local car shows, many of which are hosted by many of our long time friends and customers. I have quite a bit of photos and details from each event which will be shared on the California Car Cover blog all week long.

My first stop Saturday morning was the Audi Club of North America's meet at the Nethercutt Museum in Sylmar. We have a few customers in the club, so I met them at the show and museum tour.
In the afternoon it was over to Vista Ford in Woodland Hills. Vista Ford hosted its annual Mustang Show in Saturday afternoon, so I stopped there to meet some customers and promote our upcoming Ford Show on the 18th.

On Sunday morning, it was off to Super Car Sunday. The Woodland Hills tradition attracts classics and exotics from all over Los Angeles.

Our good friends at the Classic Chevys of Southern California Club hosted their annual car show at Rancho San Antonio in Chatsworth. We have been an exhibitor there for the last few years.

The annual Greystone Mansion Concours also took place on Sunday. I went out there on Sunday afternoon to cover the events and tour the mansion.
My good friends at dub-nation and eco-shine car care represented California Car Cover at the Speed & Stance Car Show at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. Bernie Chacon of dub-nation, covered the event for us and I will be sharing his photos from the show later this week.

2013 Father's Day Photo Shoot at Canepa Design

For our annual Father's Day photo shoot, my photographer and I headed up to Canepa Design in Scott's Valley, Ca. Bruce Canepa, the company's founder, has been a customer of California Car Cover since we started in 1989. We met Bruce, and his son Michael, at the facility for a photo shoot and personal tour of the company's headquarters.

The first stop on our tour was the museum. The museum has an incredible collection of historic racing automobiles. Bruce is an avid auto enthusiast, designer and renowned driver. Bruce has driven open wheel sports cars, sprint cars, LeMans vehicles, and even semi trucks. He still holds the Pikes Peak Hill Climb record in which he drove a Kenworth big rig up the mountain. You can check out the video on You Tube here.

The museum collection features many noteworthy vehicles in the history of motorsports, plus cars that Bruce has personally driven at racing events around the country. You might recognized some of the legendary cars on display.

After the museum tour, Bruce took us down to the showroom floor. Canepa Design features a large inventory of classic cars, exotics and race cars that are available for sale.

Canepa Design restores and repairs many desirable European cars, like the Porsche 959. At any given time there are a few of the ultra rare Porsche at Canepa undergoing a restoration.

After viewing all the amazing cars, it was time to tour the restoration facility. I found the warehouse to be the most impressive part of out trip. The warehouse is immaculate and well organized.
Race Car Restoration and Repair Center
Canepa Design handles all steps in the restoration process except engines. All the body and paint work is completed at the facility. It was an incredible display of Porsche and Mercedes vehicles in all steps of completion.

After the tour it was time to take some photos for the California Car Cover catalog cover. Here is the finished product:
