Jimmy DeFrank Racing in the ADRL at St. Louis

While I was working a few classic car events for California Car Cover last weekend, my brother, Jimmy, was competing in an ADRL event in Madison, MO. I posted a link to an article on our Facebook page last week about Jimmy driving the Ford Mustang owned by good friend Bo Butner. Here are some photo highlights and notes courtesy of Jimmy..

I had not been to downtown St. Louis before so the guys and I went into the city to see all the sights. I checked out the Arch from ground level. I prefer keeping two feet on the ground so I passed up on the ride in the metal basket that takes you to the top of the Arch.

I was able to hang out all weekend with the Butner racing team. Darrel, Greg and the kids are a lot of fun, and definitely go the extra mile to make sure the car is ready to get down the track. I was racing their Ford Mustang that competes in the new SuperCar Showdown category. The car ran 5.78 at 120 in the 1/8 mile.

Ford Mustang vehicles were the most popular cars at the event. All 5 entries in the SuperCar Showdown field were Fords.

Here are the Mustangs parked in the Butner racing camps.
The ADRL attracts different cars than the NHRA events that I am used to watching. The Extreme category cars looked cool and were fun to watch go down the track.

There were only a few cars entered in the SuperCar Showdown, but I was able to make it to the final round. Unfortunately, we came up short and Drew Skillman got the victory. The Skillmans are customers of California Car Cover and friends from the NHRA Sportsman racing circuit. Congratulations to them on the win. Round by round results can be seen on Drag Race Central. Post race coverage can be read on the ADRL website.

LAPD VTAC Car Show & Pomona Swap Meet

I didn't do it. I swear. I was framed.
This past weekend was a busy one for the California Car Cover crew and me. On Saturday I was at the LAPD Valley Traffic car show in Woodland Hills, Ca. I attended the show last year and had a good time, so California Car Cover returned again to support local law enforcement.

Early in the morning, the cars were parked and their owners started detailing before the crowd arrived. Our booth was right behind a local Dodge Challenger club and were happy to see a few California Car Dusters in use.

The show had a nice variety of classic cars, traditional rods and newer muscle cars.

There were quite a few Chevy Camaro vehicles past and present at the show. Hopefully I will see them and many more at our Camaro Car Show next weekend at California Car Cover.

The LAPD VTAC show is held at Warner Center Park in Woodland Hills, Ca. It has plenty of parking and shade for a large show. California Car Cover has been a supporter of the LAPD for many years, so we are happy to display at their car shows when possible.

Recognize this roadster? It is owned by good friend and customer John Wall. It was featured on last year's Father Day's catalog cover. Ralph Ray's cabriolet in the background was featured on the California Car Cover Gift Guide last year as well.

Once the sun came out people started showing up to enjoy the classic cars and local food trucks at the event. The park had plenty of space for everyone to have a nice afternoon in the park.

The LAPD had a few different departments on hand doing demonstrations to entertain all members of the family.

On Saturday night, my father and I went to Hollywood Hot Rods for the unveiling of the 1940 Ford that Troy Ladd and the HHR crew built for Street Rodder's Road Tour. The car is beautiful and once we are allowed to share photos with you, they will be posted here.

The next morning it was off to the Fairplex for the Pomona Swap Meet. Before the foot traffic started to pick up I had a chance to take some photos of the cool cars on display in the For Sale section.

Besides the cool classic cars on display, you can find just about anything automotive related at the Pomona Swap Meet. There are countless vendors at the show and here is a small sample of what you might find at the event.

California Car Cover is right on the main drag at the swap meet so the sales associates are busy helping customers with car cover questions all day long.

Another nice thing about being on the main road is that we get to see all the cars coming in and out of the show, so we have a chance to see a lot of cars without having to leave the booth.

Next weekend is the Camaro Show at California Car Cover, so check back here with news and notes from that event, plus coverage of my trip to the Ink & Iron Show in Long Beach, Ca on Sunday.
